There is no doubt that the Packers just lost their most emblematic player when they delivered Brett Favre to the New York Jets, a team that was urged for a quarterback with the character and the charisma of Joe Namath, and with Favre on their roster, they have improved their odds to win the AFC East from 15/1 to 5/1.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the road is easy: they are sharing their division with the New England Patriots, the team with the best record of the past NFL season.
The Jets outbid the Bucs in trade talks and will pay Favre $12 million for this season only, and I’m sure the Packers were looking to trade the experienced QB to a team out of the NFC and to one they will not have to face this season.
At least the Brett Favre soap opera is over, and I’m sure the Jets will make some good money by selling Jets shirts with the Favre stamp on the back.
So Favre is leaving Green Bay after 16 seasons just to retire with a different team, and here’s where Brett resembles Namath more than ever, as Broadway Joe left the Jets after 10 seasons to finish his career just one year after with the former Los Angeles Rams.
There is one thing for sure: many NFL football fans of the Packers were fonder of Favre than the team itself, and those are the ones who will still follow the end of his career step by step.
