Brett Favre goes to New York

After a very discussed and dramatic feud between NFL team Green Bay Packers and the NFL quarterback. Fox Sports announced that the former Packers player was traded to the New York Jets officially on August 7, 2008. The exact compensation wasn't immediately known, but is believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending on New York's performance during the NFL season.

The football career of Favre started at the quarterback position for The University of Southern Mississippi for four years before being selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons (33rd overall), where his NFL career started to raise. After one season with the Falcons, Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers on February 10, 1992 for the 19th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. Brett Favre also is the only AP MVP (1995-97) in NFL history and led the Packers to two Super Bowls.

It is known that Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to Brett Favre several times in the past weeks, but apparently none of their conversations manage to accomodate anything to change the fractured relationship between Favre and the NFL franchise. Although Green Bay fans have been quite outspoken about their wish to have Brett Favre back in the team, they seemed to have accepted the change peacefully.

Favre, did not make many declarations during the dispute, he finally, last July he made a public statement where he made clear that he did not want to return to the Packers as a backup and would rather be released rather than traded to another NFL team. He would rather have the liberty to play for a competitive team. Favre also accused the Packers of being dishonest.
